FADA-CATEC’ facilities held the General Meeting where results from previous tests were analyzed
Within this project, CATEC has developed several experiments and preliminary tests to validate applications with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) which have been chosen to take part of this initiative, under the EC VII Framework Programme. Specifically, validation for UAVs showed that they could develop the necessary flights plans for the execution of the PLANET project’s missions.
Besides, several flights, to test different wireless communications systems among ground sensors which communicate directly with UAVs, were developed. For that, several types of antennas were tested and important data was collected which are going to enable the consortium to know in great detail if these systems accomplish the communication requirements of this kind of applications.

This approach has been presented during the last General Meeting, held at FADA-CATEC’s facilities, where results from tests and validations were commented. Next steps to carry on with the PLANET project were also planned.
The PLANET Project is intended to develop new systems for the integration of UAVs with wireless sensor networks to monitor and to take decisions in matters of environment conservation and on airports automation if emergency situations. This project has also the participation of AICIA-University of Seville, the Doñana Biologic Station of the Spanish National Research Council, Boeing Research and Technology Europe and ETRA. Apart from these five institutions, together with the consortium in charge of developing these projects there are 7 more partners from Germany, UK, Italy and Belgium.
