CATEC was once again in attendance at the Transfiere Forum, a leading event in the field of science and technology organised by the Regional Ministry of Universities, Research and Innovation of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Málaga City Council and the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, which this year took place from 24 to 26 February at the Málaga Trade Fair and Congress Centre (FYCMA).

Our technology centre took part in several sessions of the programme of conferences and round-table discussions, alongside other leading experts in the fields of innovation, science and academia, contributing its vision and expertise in specific areas such as unmanned mobility and the promotion of talent and entrepreneurship in the space sector in Andalusia.

Our Director of Avionics and Systems, Antidio Viguria, took part in the round-table discussion ‘Unmanned Aerial Mobility: the CUAM Innovation Ecosystem’, which examined the CUAM project (Centre for Innovation in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and Urban Air Mobility) and the opportunities presented by unmanned aerial mobility in Andalusia. During his talk, Viguria emphasised the impact that CUAM will have on the Andalusian region by providing unique equipment that will enable cutting-edge research and technological development with UAS to continue on a global scale. He also highlighted the importance, in order to maximise the impact, of increasing the transfer of this innovative unmanned aerial mobility technology to industry, for which it is essential to promote driving initiatives that help the sector take off.

This panel was moderated by Nieves Valenzuela, Director-General for Innovation Promotion at the Regional Ministry of Universities, Research and Innovation, and also featured Ángel Luis Trigo, Vice-Rector for Innovation, Knowledge Transfer and Entrepreneurship at the University of Seville; Brigadier General Rafael Fernández-Shaw, Deputy Director of Education at the Air and Space Force; and José Ramiro Martínez de Dios, Director of CUAM.

CATEC was also represented at the event through ESA BIC Andalucía, whose manager, Gracia Catalina Piñero, took part in another panel discussion entitled ‘From knowledge to impact: strategies for promoting spin-offs in Andalusia’, which explored ways of accelerating the creation of technology-based companies and bridging the gap between science and the market. During the session, Piñero shared her vision focused on strengthening Andalusia’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, highlighting the importance of moving from scientific talent and knowledge to robust companies with market potential.

The manager of ESA BIC Andalucía took part in the round table alongside leading figures in entrepreneurship and innovation in Andalusia, such as Francisco Liñán, director of the Entrepreneurship Secretariat at the University of Seville; Juan Antonio Muñoz, director of the OTRI at the University of Granada; Sergio Fortes, professor at the University of Málaga and co-founder of the spin-off Albor Space; Ángel Millán Ramos, specialist at the Andalusian Public Foundation Andalucía Emprende; Eugenia Sanjuán, innovation and entrepreneurship consultant at Daleph; and Francisco Javier González Navarro, Director-General for the Promotion of Entrepreneurship and Continuing Education at the Regional Ministry of Universities, Research and Innovation, who acted as moderator.

Both round-table discussions took place within the “Andalucía Knowledge” space, organised by the Regional Government of Andalusia and the Andalucía TRADE agency, where a number of sessions were held on knowledge transfer in Andalusia and opportunities for collaboration between stakeholders in the Andalusian Knowledge System and businesses.
