CATEC participated in the First Andalucía Aero Day, an important event for the Andalusian aerospace industry organized by Andalucía TRADE and the Andalusian aerospace and defense cluster, which was created with the intention of continuity.
The event, inaugurated by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Carolina España, and featuring an opening keynote by the President of Airbus Spain, Francisco Javier Sánchez, brought together 120 companies from the sector along with a broad institutional representation. The goal was to highlight the capabilities of the Andalusian aerospace ecosystem in response to the challenges of an industry in constant transformation. As discussed during the event, the aerospace sector represents 13% of Andalucía’s industrial GDP and continues to grow year after year. In this context, CATEC stands out as a key technological center, generating new technologies and applications that are transferred to companies.
The CEO of CATEC moderated one of the round tables at the ‘Andalucía Aero Day,’ where five experts analyzed the various capabilities of the Andalusian cluster: aerospace, with Diego García from Aciturri; engineering and systems, with Gema Martín del Burgo from Orbital Critical Systems; defense, with Fernando Lasagni from Novaindef; space, with David Núñez Teruel from Alter Technology; and UAVs, with Pedro Becerra from AERTEC.
In his speech, Rodríguez Grau highlighted that Andalucía “is developing advanced capabilities in space, including Earth observation, in-orbit maintenance, embedded AI, additive manufacturing, and satellite control.” He emphasized that “the key technologies in the region are dual-use (aeronautics/defense and space), with a strong presence in automation, perception, navigation, and robotics.” To conclude, the CEO of CATEC called on companies and technology entities to collaborate with the Andalusian ecosystem, which offers real capabilities to develop and validate cutting-edge solutions in cooperation.
The event featured a delegation of 14 international aerospace companies from six countries, which held B2B meetings with Andalusian companies as part of the aerospace reverse trade mission organized by Andalucía TRADE.
